Boréales Energy is a startup founded in Caen, Normandy, France, in 2015. We develop, produce, and market an innovative ice energy storage solution, accompanied by a comprehensive service offering.
Our investment in R&D over the past five years has resulted in a new, environmentally-friendly vision of energy storage and savings in several industries. Our first innovation was the Static Thermal Accumulator (Accumulateur Thermique Statique, or ATS), a cold energy storage solution that uses nothing more than water and aluminium.
Our second innovation, currently under development, allows electricity to be stored in the form of ice, using an unprecedented combination of proven thermodynamic cycles (the refrigeration cycle and the ORC cycle), whilst also allowing plenty of scope for fatal heat recovery.

The ATS is a technological innovation that also helps protect the environment. Our cold energy storage solution uses water and aluminium – two elements naturally present in abundance in the environment.
Our innovative model is wholly compatible with photovoltaic solar electricity. As such, it’s the ideal complement to solar panels producing power in off-peak hours. It also makes better use of refrigeration units.
Today, the ATS provides cold energy that matches end requirements. No additional energy is required to use the stored energy for cooling.
The ATS also helps provide load balancing during spikes in demand for cooling. It’s an ideal way of avoiding refrigeration units being over-dimensioned, and reducing surplus energy use.
